What is sciatica?
Dr. Silverman’s chiropractic clinic in Delray Beach is experienced in sciatica treatment for nerve pain relief. Known as sciatic neuralgia, it is a common condition that causes pain from the lower back to the back of the leg and into the foot. When the vertebrae in the lower back are compressed, the roots of the sciatic nerve can become pinched and irritated. Because the nerve originates in the lumbar spine and extends down to the buttocks, ankles and feet, any injuries to the nerve can create discomfort in these extremities.
It can make sitting and standing for long periods of time difficult and will often come and go throughout a person’s lifetime, causing varying degrees of discomfort. If sciatica is left without treatment from our Delray Beach clinic, the nerve pain will generally grow worse and the nerve can become permanently injured, leading to severe weakness, tingling, and numbness.
This pain is commonly caused by poor posture, repetitive use injuries, and accidents that result in disk injuries or bulges where the disc presses against the nerve root causing the issue. They are also common in patients with misalignments in the spine due to postural issues, pregnancy, or trauma that had time to develop before the triggering incident occurred.
How can I recover from sciatica?
The amount of time it takes to recover under sciatica treatment depends on the condition of the disc or the joints affected by sciatica. In most cases, the longer the issue persists, the longer it will take for sciatica treatment to correct the issue. It typically takes less time to relieve the ailment through sciatica treatment than it took to create it. Once the position of the spine and discs are improved, the sciatica patients at our Delray Bech clinic often report improvements to their overall health.
Dr. Silverman of Delray Beach is highly trained to hone in on the source of the nerve pain and work with the patient in determining the most suitable approach to sciatica treatment. After a thorough assessment of the circumstances of an individual’s condition, gentle adjustments are made that will allow the body to recover its natural alignment.
